Hey everyone. I have a special request from all of you. Please, pleeeaase don’t let your friends drink and drive! And to those of you who do drink and drive, if you can afford to pay 10 bucks for a tiny shot, I think you can also spring an additional 15 for a cab! What makes me angry is when people try to act macho and say they can handle their drink, that they never get drunk, and that they can drive without any problems. PLEASE spare me the B.S.! Will it harm your ego if you just call a taxi? With all the accidents that’s been going on, think twice before you go behind that steering wheel while intoxicated.
What a coincidence, I had this as my fb status on sunday and wrote a post about it.
Anyway, I definitely second you on that specially the stupid macho attitude
Great minds think alike
We say: don’t drive drunk because it’s a pity to spill the beer
I think it’s great and in two days, we’ve had two posts on “drinking and driving,” yours and Liliane’s. I hope we have many more and keep the campaign up. Also, I think if people refuse to ride in a car with someone who has had too much to drink, then maybe he or she will get the message. Great post
Great post, and such an important topic of immediate concern! I hope people will listen!
I have used those arguments so many times and as a result jeopardized my life and that of others on multiple (infinite) occasions. Luckily my only victim was a car I smashed on the sidewalk of a highway curve. I fell asleep while driving. The sidewalk and the angle I hit it with absorbed the shock and left me unharmed. After the incident I pondered the other potential outcomes in light of the innumerable variables that could have been slightly different; speed, angle, time, location, people, cars, pavement, bridges, etc.. Although I became much more vigilant and adopted better practices I still drove myself or was a passenger with other drunk drivers on a few occasions. The real wake up call came when I lost a friend a few months ago to a drunk driving incident; ever since cabs became the only ride I would take after a night out.
Unfortunately, I believe technology is the only real solution for this problem. Awareness campaigns and strict laws will never resolve it as humans overestimate the amount of control they have over their environment and underestimate the feebleness of their existence; and both beliefs are only compounded when judgement is impaired by the effects of alcohol.
The solution is for people to either be smarter or dead.
