I did this comic/joke a couple of years ago about another law that was supposed to be passed with regards to regulating/banning VOIP calls in Lebanon(it never passed). But apparently some jokes can be reused over and over in this country.
Now we have another issue with the introduction of the Lebanese Internet Regulation Act. A lot of bloggers are blogging about this issue and how it could be used to censor blogs due to its vagueness. Check the hashtag #STOPLIRA and #LIRA on twitter.
Oooh and I think this is the first time I post 3 times in a week!
Seriously… !
You know the government has a point. After all it already solved other issues like : Food scandal, political assassinations, abduction of people, murders in the middle of the day … Now the only left problem is uncontrolled blogging…
One of my favorite comments! I couldn’t stop laughing at this one!
eheh 3 times per week.. where is the problem if amazing stuff is coming out from your creativity
Awwww thank you so much Mahmoud!
this is because the minister has so many relatives who wants to work in the government and they want “an office job”
anyway 3 times per week … and loving it, if it wasn’t taking all your time we wouldn’t accept less than that anymore
we can take advantage of this country and if we repeated the comic 100 times we still laugh at it and they still won’t understand
enjoy
Hehe interesting theory! Didn’t think of it that way! And I’m glad you’re loving the posts although I don’t think I’ll be repeating it any time soon. Three times is way too much! I’m so tired!
The government in Lebanon is clueless as to what needs to be done. Then again this seems to have been the case for many years now. Just can’t believe that something the clamps on personal freedoms is being advocated by the Lebanese government. Such a shame for supposedly a free country.
Stress on the word “supposedly”. Thanks for the comment Chadi!
Hehe keep it up! Comics are the best way to get people interested!
Actually I referenced your blog post on STOPLIRA in order to do this comic!
Bloggers must be protected from themselves, right?! right?……. Anybody?
Love that last panel, Sareen!
Hahahaha I’m guessing you heard crickets? Heehee, thank you so so much Mark! I’m really happy you like it!
That’s the result of people being silent and passive! I guess the initiators of such a set of regulations thought we are a different country!
I hope at least they’ll notice we’re not so silent and passive on this law!
It’s always fun, even with serious subject matter, to do a comic on a subject you’re passionate about!
So true! I just hope it makes a difference though…Thanks Tim!
If your site is ever down I’ll know why and who to hunt down.
HAHA! Oh I’m so glad to know you’ve got my back
Actually the law did pass! U cannot make a phone call from skype to a line mtc/alfa/ogero over 3g network
The funny thing is she doesn’t even notice the guy until he takes her away.
I find it extremely offensive that Lebanese government officials will decide what is moral and worth posting!
Tfeh!
Hopefully I think this law isn’t going to pass!
This is a fundamental psychological misunderstanding that politicians have regarding free speech. Free speech (and all freedoms for example prostitution) actually reduce violence by giving an outlet for people’s feelings and dissent. The people in power feel that “Out of sight, out of mind’ but that is completely ignorant.
