Yesterday was Palm Sunday in many countries around the world as well as in Lebanon. Traditionally in Lebanon, Palm Sunday is the day where people give children these candles that are decorated with olive branches, and these children can hold these candles in church.
However, over the years, there’s been a new trend of creative and EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE candles decorated with crystals and other extras. This honestly infuriates me so much.
Without having to go into the details of religion, a couple of things Jesus has shown us is how humble he was and how he was against materialism. And a way we “celebrate” this is by allowing these people to sell us candles for hundreds of dollars? Really?! Why on earth would we want to buy candles encrusted with crystals and diamonds?
Anyways I hope you had a wonderful Palm Sunday with your family and friends!

Well, that’s the commercialization of festivities for you. To some people, there’s no such things as “too far” when it comes to ways of earning money.
Well said, Sareen. I think this applies to lots of things in religion. Does anyone really need a $300 bible? That seems excessive. People get lost in what these holidays have become instead of what they originally meant.
You’re so right! That’s crazy!
That’s the story of Jesus! (Available from amazon for only $59.99)
It doesn’t come as a surprise to me… almost since it’s very inception organized religion has been about money and power/control this is just a logical extension of that. I mean have you ever seen the inside of a Roman cathedral? Its ridiculously opulent and beautiful on the one hand but about as far away from the message of Christ as one can conceive of. If the stories of Jesus are to be believed he would be much more at home amid the poor, the lepers, the prostitutes. You’d probably be much more likely to find him in a brothel with the outcasts of society turning water into wine than you would inside any cathedral -lol
Wasn’t there an episode where Jesus threw these guys out?
I think it’s true, and people should wake up and realise that what they are doing, would be condemnes by Jesus if he was among us today.
Well said Sareen. You should also talk about the pictures!! Lol
