Admit it, how many of you have cursed those poor souls at IT support?
I remember this one time where I called the hotline for my internet connection (surprise surprise) and this young woman answers. Before she can say anything I tell her “Look, I tried restarting my computer, I turned my router off and on again, I connected the router directly to my computer, it’s NOT working, so don’t give me the basic answers”.
That poor girl..I think it was her first day or something because she broke down crying…I felt horrible…
LoooooL
I am not an It guy, but yesterday I got an Android support call. And I asked for a phone restart. And I was called an IT guy
IT is the hardest job in the world.
IT people are basically the “human commands to computer commands” translators.
I’m so happy I’m not in IT!
I’ve managed to stay courteous to every customer service worker so far. I’ve heard the stories of what they have to put up with…
hahahah thx my IT friend is called george restart
Everyone needs to understand the difference between IT and Helpdesk. The two are NOT related. Helpdesk is pure customer support, where you help people with their product/PC/phone/account.. IT is the technical part. Helpdesk for IT is someone who knows how to deal with customers and has a technical background. Customers calling the “IT guy” a dumbass are seriously the most ignorant in the world. If you could solve the problem yourself, then why call? There are procedures they take to trouble shoot, and yes rebooting is one of them.
Thank you Sareen for shedding light on this issue:)
Being an IT pro myself, I’ve always already tried just about everything even remotely reasonable before I get to the point I call tech support, but I’ve never thought of it as an attack when I do what you describe. I always start off with “I’m in IT so I know what I’m doing, and I’ve already tried X, Y, and Z. None of that worked, so, what should I do?”
Just about every time I’ve done that the person on the phone has been reasonable about it and said something to the effect of “Well, that makes it easier…” They sometimes have to go through a script and ask me to re-try one or more of the things I already did, which I can accept, but I think of listing what has already been tried as a courtesy.
I work in IT and it bothers me when the solution is just reboot. It really bothers me when the end users just tell me to reboot before I get a chance to look and see the root cause. Then after the reboot, there is no way to find out what the problem was
I hope the perks all worth dear IT guy ;D
welll i have to admit to you alll that IT work, which you make fun of is not their fault the computer tilts it is cause the user over uses the computer, does not close applications and the computer freezes and in other words computers that use MICROSOFT needs to be rebooted on regular bases so… sorry guys… instead of calling IT guys try to F****** reboot the thing first… if that does not work…. ring US UP….!!!!!!
I often wondered if ( “IT” = dog in turkish)… was concocted to describe a function for a human that is indeed a dog’s life? lol.
Hey – you doing something different with the lines? They look better blended than usual.
